FINANCIAL STATEMENT:

Last year’s Annual Financial Statement is printed on the Parish Noticeboard. I would like to thank Parishioners for their support throughout the year.

PLANNED GIVING AND GIFT AID:

David Savage writes:

I’ve rambled on for some weeks now about Planned Giving and Gift Aid.  Now I think it’s time to summarise and stop!  Planned Giving and Gift Aid enables the parish to reclaim from the Government 28 pence for every pound that is donated by UK taxpayers.  Most of us are UK taxpayers, either on income, savings interest or capital gains.  Donations must be recorded and this is done through the Planned Giving part of the system, either by Weekly Envelopes or by Standing Orders.  The cost to the donor is nothing; the benefit to the parish is considerable.  There is no promise to give a certain amount for a given period.  If you would like to know more or would like to join the scheme then please contact David Savage on 01244 380626.  On the other hand, if you are happy to let Gordon Brown keep your hard earned money…

BEREAVEMENT GROUP:

Has bereavement affected you?

Do you feel the need to talk in confidence?

The Parish Bereavement Group provides support and care to the bereaved and their families. All members have been fully trained and would like to invite people to contact the group by ringing Ruth on (01244) 380300.

THE HOUSEBOUND:

Please remember the housebound and especially those who have been coming to Church and are now unable to do so.  Let Fr. Cooke, Lawrence or the Eucharistic Ministers know and appropriate arrangements for the Sacraments can be made.

DAY FOR LIFE - SUNDAY 26TH JULY:

“Day for Life” is held each year as a day in the Church’s year dedicated to raising awareness about the meaning and value of human life at every stage and in every condition. “You are precious in my sight” is the theme for this year’s Day for Life. May we safeguard the value of all life and be strong in its defence.

FEAST OF THE WEEK: ST. IGNATIUS LOYOLA:

On Friday 31st July we celebrate the feast of St. Ignatius (1491-1556) founder of the Jesuits. Born in the Basque country, he was brought up a soldier but was converted to the spiritual life as a result of his readings while convalescing from the wounds of battle. He made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, and later went on to study philosophy in Paris where he inspired a group of seven students to bind themselves in the service of the church, with his Spiritual Exercises being a central part of their discipline. The group's work led on to the Pope's formal recognition of the Society of Jesus in 1540. For the last 15 years of his life, Ignatius worked in Rome to direct a huge expansion of the missionary and educational work of the Jesuits.

ST. PETERS CENTRE AT THE CROSS:

The church building is available for use by Christian organisations for a wide range of events such as services, exhibitions, meetings and concerts.

The work of the Centre continues, with refreshments available during its normal opening hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Saturday (except for Friday afternoon when lack of volunteers forces it to close).  The great majority of the refreshments are from fair trade sources.

If you would like to discuss using the Centre for any appropriate activity, or if you would like to become a volunteer steward, please contact David Savage on 01244 380626.
