Planned Giving: £529. 21p

Hire of Hall; £242. 00p

OFFERTORY ENVELOPES - ‘PEEL & SEAL’:

This year’s envelopes, the green ones, have a ‘peel & seal’ flap. The advantage of this is that the contents of the envelope are more secure and money is prevented from falling out into the collection basket. However, the strip needs to be removed to make the seal effective. A number of envelopes are being received where this has not been done. May I ask for your cooperation in ensuring the flap is properly sealed. Should you be having any problems with your envelopes please contact David Savage on 380626. And, may I thank all of you who contribute through the envelopes for your continuing generosity.

NEW VESTMENTS:

Fr. Cooke wishes to replace some Mass Vestments and if you wish to contribute to this please put your donation in an envelope marked ‘Vestments’. Thank you in anticipation.

CLIMATE CHANGE:

CAFOD is joining forces with a whole host of organisations seeking to ensure that the international negotiations over climate change (which come to a head at the UN conference in Copenhagen this December) take full account of the particular needs of the developing countries as well as commitments to action by the industrialised countries. From next weekend we will have a display about the “Climate Justice” campaign. On the weekend of 7th/ 8th November cards will be available for signing, urging our Prime Minister to take the climate justice approach at the Copenhagen summit. Details will also be available about a coach from Chester to the big rally “The Wave” being held in London on Saturday 5th December.

UPTON HALL SCHOOL:

On Saturday 7th November at 2.30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool there is to be a Mass to celebrate the 160th Anniversary of the foundation of the school. Everyone associated with the school or Holt Hill Convent is warmly invited.

CHESTER HOMELESS:

Thank you so much for your donations which have all been delivered. The knitted hats were wonderful and have been very well received. Thank you also for the socks. deoderants, soaps etc. Mens warm clothing is very much needed - shoes, jackets, pullovers, hats, scarves and gloves - also blankets (if there are any left after previous requests!) and duvets etc.

Any dried or tinned goods that can be used in the kitchens are also well received. I will be away from Saturday 7th November until Saturday 5th December - if there are any donations during this time, please leave them in the cupboard under the stairs ready for collection.

Your donations keep the Centre ticking over - there are so many people using this Centre who owe a great deal to the Parishioners of St. Columba’s and they thank me EVERY week for your kindness - I think it is also the fact that they know that there are people out there who really do care what happens to them that makes them so grateful for your help. For suitability or collections please telephone Maggie on Chester (01244) 341509 after 7pm.

CHURCHES TOGETHER IN UPTON:

The next social event is a Quiz Night in aid of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd to be held at the URC on Friday, 30th October. Why not put together a team and come along for an enjoyable evening?

Each year our local Churches hand-deliver a Christmas card to every home in Upton, and we invite our young church-goers (up to age 11) to help by designing a picture for the front of the card. There is a prize for the picture chosen. Leaflets are available in both Porches, giving all the information about the competition.

Entries need to be handed in to Pauline Payne by 8th November. We’d like lots of entries from St. Columba’s!

PARISH DIRECTORY:

The Directory of Organisation and Contacts for our Parish has recently been updated. Copies are available in both porches. The Directory will be updated regularly, so please let us know of any errors or omissions.
