FINANCIAL STATEMENT:
Last year’s Annual Financial Statement is printed on the Parish Noticeboard. I would like to thank Parishioners for their support throughout the year.
PLANNED GIVING AND GIFT AID:
I’ve talked about Planned Giving through weekly Envelopes and Standing Orders, so now let’s move on to describe Gift Aid. Because the Diocese is a registered charity it is allowed by the Government to recover tax already paid on donations to it. This amounts to 28p in every pound donated. UK tax paid on income, capital gains and savings all qualify. The amount the parish expects to recover for 2008-9 is approximately £13,000. This is available to us at no cost whatsoever to you the donor. However, your donations have to be recorded and this is where the Planned Giving system comes into play as it enables us to record your donations, both through envelopes and Standing Orders. There is no commitment as there was under the old covenant system to make declared payments for a fixed period of time; you merely express the wish that tax be recovered on your donations. Special forms are available for this. If you are a UK taxpayer, on income, capital gains or savings, and would like to enable the parish to recover the tax you have already paid on your donations please contact David Savage on 380626.
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS:
The school holidays are here – A Big Thank You to all our teachers and students for their hard work. The Parishes are very grateful for all that they do.
THE HOUSEBOUND:
Please remember the housebound and especially those who have been coming to Church and are now unable to do so. Let Fr. Cooke, Lawrence or the Eucharistic Ministers know and appropriate arrangements for the Sacraments can be made.

SURESTART CHILDREN’S CENTRE – S.V.P.:
There is an amendment to the notice put in last week about clothes for the mother and her 3 children. The ages were right but it turns out that the 14 year old is a girl, 12 year boy and the 3 year old is a boy; the mother herself is size 16.

FEASTS OF THE WEEK:
Tuesday, 21st July: St Lawrence of Brindisi:
Lawrence was a great linguist, Biblicist, writer and preacher. As a Capuchin Friar he preached in many European countries, particularly among Jews and Lutherans.
Wednesday, 22nd July: St Mary Magdalene:
Having been healed of seven devils by Jesus, Mary followed him and ministered to him in Galilee. She was present at the foot of the Cross and St. Mark states that it was to her that the risen Christ first appeared. St. John movingly relates how she recognised him when he called her by her name.
Thursday, 23rd July: St. Bridget:
Married with eight children, she founded the Order of the Holy Saviour (Bridgettines) after the death of her husband. She cared for the poor and the sick and wrote about the mystical experiences she had.
This is a day of Special Prayer for Europe.
Saturday: 25th July: St James:
Apostle, fisherman and brother of John, he was chosen by Jesus to witness his transfiguration and agony in the garden. There is a tradition that he travelled to Spain and preached the Gospel there, and certainly there is a shrine and centre of pilgrimage in his honour at Compostella. He was the first of the apostles to be martyred in AD 44 by King Herod Agrippa I.
“THANK YOU”

Dennis is now continuing his rehabilitation at home and hopes to make a full recovery from his stroke. Please pray that he will.
