POPE'S PRAYER INTENTIONS IN AUGUST:
This month the Pope asks us to pray that public opinion address the issue of displaced people and refugees, to find solutions to their often tragic conditions. To pray also that they who suffer persecution in the name of Christ be granted equality and freedom to live their faith.

MISSIONARY SISTERS APPEAL:
The Missionary Sisters of St. Peter Claver will be here on 5th/6th September to appeal on behalf of the Sisters Missions Committee of England and Wales. They will tell us about their missionary work and would be grateful for your support.
NEEDLES AND PINS GROUP:
The Needles and Pins group for knitters and stitchers meet again on Wednesday 26th August at 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. in the hall. Bring your own work or join in with a group bag making project. Also enjoy a cuppa and a chat.
SPRITUAL READING GROUP:

THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION:
This weekend’s feast reminds us of our Lady’s absolute closeness to Jesus in every aspect of His revelation and truth as The Son of God.
Mary follows him to the conclusion of his earthly destiny in order to be with him in the fullness of his risen and glorified life in heaven.
There She encourages us to deepen our lives and so be part forever of His Heavenly Glory

ST. PETERS CENTRE AT THE CROSS:
The church building is available for use by Christian organisations for a wide range of events such as services, exhibitions, meetings and concerts.
The work of the Centre continues, with refreshments available during its normal opening hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Saturday (except for Friday afternoon when lack of volunteers forces it to close). The great majority of the refreshments are from fair trade sources.

LINDISFARNE and the NORTHERN SAINTS
Friday –Sunday 28th – 30th August 2009:
There are still places left for this year’s trip to the North East. The itinerary includes visits to Ripon Cathedral, Brancepeth Castle and Church, Hexham Abbey and Raby Castle, as well as Mass on Holy Island. Accommodation at Ushaw is all en-suite. CHURCH SURROUNDS:
Many thanks to Cath and John Bond for looking after the flowerbeds around the Church, including the re-planting of the two beds affected by the recent work on the tiled walls. With the flowerbeds now very nicely in order, Cath and John are looking for volunteers to take on the task of the further maintenance of the flower beds. If you feel you have an hour or two to spare on an occasional basis please speak to Fr. Cooke or phone Cath and John on 01244 350851.

MUSIC AT ST. WERBURGH’S:
The “Tuesdays at One” lunchtime organ recitals continue every week at St. Werburgh’s Church up until September 15th. Free entry, retiring collection. Then on Friday 25th September at 7.30 p.m., “The Organist Entertains” - the renowned Nigel Ogden will be playing. Tickets £8 for this concert.
