That the Word of God be better known, accepted and lived as the one true source of freedom and joy.
That Christians in Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar may place their trust in the Holy Spirit and so maintain the courage to proclaim the Gospel in spite of their difficulties.
COFFEE AFTER MASS:
Tea and coffee are served in the Hall after the Sunday morning Masses. All are welcome.
Gerry & Jimmy thank everyone who kindly provided cakes for last week’s coffee morning for the Hospice.
PARISH AGM:
St. Columba’s Pastoral Council is holding its AGM on Sunday 11th October at 7 p.m. in the Hall.
The Pastoral Council has been operating for several years, and develops and coordinates a number of activities within the parish including the Liturgy Group which arranges services and provides Readers and Bidding Prayers, and the Social Awareness Group which provides trained support for the bereaved. In the past year it has provided the impetus for the establishment of a Buildings Committee with close links to the diocesan team with the aim of providing local support for the maintenance and development of the parish buildings. Of current interest in this area is the reinstatement of the ‘garage’ after its damage by a runaway car: should it be merely reinstated as a storage area or is there an opportunity improve and refurbish it as meeting or social room? If you are interested in pastoral matters in the parish please come along to the AGM and have your say.
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS/READERS ROTA:
Your new Rota (which includes the Season of Advent) is now ready for collection in the front porch. If you know you are going to be away for/during the Christmas, it will be helpful if you could let me know by the end of November, so that I can incorporate this in the Christmas Rota. Many thanks for all your support.
READERS:
A Day of Recollection with Fr. Geoff O’Grady has been organised for existing Readers on Saturday 31st October at St. Columba’s. Please make every effort to attend. Further details will be posted on the front and back porches as soon as available.
MUSIC GROUP AT 11.00 A.M. MASS:
We welcome back the Music Group this Sunday. As always, they are appealing for new members, both woodwind players (flute, clarinet, recorder) and singers. Can you help them to lead the singing at the 11.00 a.m. Mass on alternate Sundays? The only commitment is to attend the practice at 10.30 a.m. before Mass. Just come along, or ring Pauline Payne on 01244 350323.
CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE:
The next meeting of the CWL will be on Monday 14th September at St. Francis Church at 7.30 p.m. It will be a general meeting to discuss future plans. At our October meeting (12th) we will have a speaker from the Air Ambulance Service. Anyone wishing to know more of this service is invited to come along.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION PREPARATION CLASSES:
These classes are held in the Church Hall on Wednesday evenings in term time from 5.00-6.00 p.m. for the children in our Parish who are unable to attend St. Werburgh’s and St. Columba’s Primary School. If you need more information please ring Pauline Payne on 01244 350323.
R.C.I.A. GROUP (A Journey in Faith for Enquirers and others):

If you, or someone you know, would be interested in joining, with a view to either being received or supporting the work of the group, please contact Fr .Cooke or Eileen Hordley (342048) to discuss.
