SOCIETY FOR THE PROTECTION OF UNBORN CHILDREN – ANNUAL PRO-LIFE WITNESS, 25th APRIL:

SPUC (Chester) Annual Pro-Life Witness against Abortion will take place on Saturday 25th April, 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. on Hoole Road (opposite Oakland Hotel), a silent dignified witness to millions of babies destroyed in the womb since 1968. PLEASE JOIN US (for all or part of the time). Also, PLEASE PRAY for the Pro-Life Campaign. Thank you.


BAG 2 SCHOOL FUNDRAISER:

St. Werburgh's & St Columba's Primary School PTA are collecting good quality second hand clothing, bedding, curtains, soft toys, shoes, belts and handbags. There are bags in the Porch for you to collect which can be filled and returned to School on Monday 27th April by 9 a.m. These items are sent on to Eastern Europe to help create job opportunities and will also benefit our School as we are paid 40p for each kilo of bags we send. So far we have raised over £1500 with this scheme, so every bit helps! Please help if you can. Many thanks.


CONGRATULATIONS!

Many congratulations to St. Columba’s Parishioner, Cllr John Ebo, on his election as the next Lord Mayor of Chester and the very first Chairman of the new Cheshire West & Chester Council. We wish John and his good lady Miriam (who will become Lady Mayoress) best wishes and every success for their period of civic office for the year 2009/10.


ST. PAUL – THE MAN AND HIS MISSION”:

A Retreat Day for anyone who wants to try to learn more about the example of St. Paul. CONCERT BY “ESSENCE”:

In St. Columba’s Church at 7.30 p.m. on Friday 17th April. A programme of sacred songs from the Irish duo Karen Lynch and Paul Redmond, in aid of the Sacred Heart Fathers’ Moldova Appeal. See the notice boards for further details.


CAFOD QUIZ NIGHT:

Chester CAFOD Support Group- Quiz Night on Friday, 17th April in St. Werburgh’s Social Centre, Brook St. Teams of up to four. Tickets at £2.50 available at the door or phone 01244 375606.


DIOCESAN GET-TOGETHER:

A “get-together” for Disability Representatives and Sacramental Preparation Catechists will be held on Saturday 25th April in the new Emmaus Building at Chester Catholic High School, from 10.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. Liz O’Brien, RE Advisor in the Birmingham Archdiocese will lead a session. Further details are on the Catechists’ notices board in the Front Porch.


CELEBRATING MARRIEDLOVE:

Fr. Daniel O’Leary and Bernie & Ann Tierney will lead a day on God’s Dream for Marriage. This will be held at St Nicholas School, Hartford, Northwich on Saturday 2nd May from 10.15 a.m. to 3.15 p.m; refreshments from 9.45 a.m. Please bring a packed lunch. Fr. Jonathan Mitchell, Vocations Director for the Diocese, will also speak on the importance of marriage in the life of the church.


DIOCESAN ANNUAL MASS FOR JUBILARIANS:

Bishop Brian will celebrate this year’s Mass at St Alban’s, Liscard, Wallasey at 7 p.m. on Friday 15th May. Couples who are celebrating Silver, Ruby, Golden or Diamond Jubilees during 2009 are invited to participate. Please give your details, NOW, to Fr. Cooke (or Lawrence) if you would like to be included. Formal invitations will then be issued by the Diocese.


DIOCESAN MASS FOR THE YEAR OF ST PAUL:

Bishop Brian will celebrate this special Mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool, on Saturday 27th June at 12 noon. The parish is allocated 20 tickets for this all ticket event and the LPA Team will arrange coach transport to serve the parishes of our area. If you wish to be included in the draw for tickets please add your name to one of the lists in front and rear Porches, as soon as possible.

CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION SWING BAND DANCE NIGHT:

The Catholic High School Parents Association is holding their annual dance night, with music from the School’s acclaimed City Jazz Swing Band. Friday 1st May, 7.30 to 11p.m. in the School Hall. Tickets £5 adults/£3 children (up to year 11) Available from the School, telephone 01244 981600.


CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION BEDDING PLANT SCHEME:

The Parents’ Association is once again running its very successful bedding plant scheme to raise much-needed funds for the School. Please support this very worthwhile scheme and help raise money for our School. Forms are available from school (telephone 981600) or from the church Porch. Orders to be received by School by Friday 1st May. Orders may be collected from St Columba’s car park on Saturday 9th May, between 11.00 and 12.30 or from the School car park on Saturday 16th May between 10.30 and 12.30.

FAIRTRADE:

More volunteers are needed to sell Fairtrade goods at the Traidcraft shop in the Wesley Methodist Church in St. John Street, Chester We particularly need some volunteers who could do the occasional half-day when regular members are away or unwell.
