CONFESSIONS:

Confessions are heard every Saturday morning after Mass and on Saturday evening from 6:45 p.m. to 7:10 p.m.

 

BAPTISMS:

We welcome into the family of God, Caitlin Marie James, Mya Leigh James, Holly Paige James and Sophie May James, who were baptised at St. Columba's last weekend. Please remember them and their family in your prayers

Baptisms are by arrangement with Fr. Cooke. After speaking to Fr. Cooke, it is important that families contact our Baptism Co-ordinator, Ann Siddall, 01244 371787, who will arrange for members of our Baptism Team to discuss Baptism and the practical details.

 

THE SICK:

Please keep in your prayers all the sick and housebound of the Parish and those who care for them. If you know of anyone who can no longer come to Mass and would like to receive Holy Communion please let Fr. Cooke or a Eucharistic Minister know.

Has bereavement affected you?

Do you feel the need to talk in confidence?

The Parish Bereavement Group provides support and care to the bereaved and their families. All members have been fully trained and would like to invite people to contact the group by ringing Ruth on (01244) 380300

 

CWL:

Thank-you to those who supported the CWL stall at the NEW CHURCH CHARITIES FAIR last week-end, £110 was made for charity.

A speaker from the Air Ambulance will be at our meeting on Monday 12th October at 7.30 p.m. in St.Francis’ Church. Anyone wanting to know more about the work of this organisation is welcome to come along.

 

READERS:

A Day of Recollection with Fr. Geoff O’Grady has been organised for Readers on Saturday 31st October 2009, 10.00a.m. till 3.30 p.m., at St. Columba’s. If you plan to attend please let Fr. Cooke know. Further details will be posted on the front and back porches.

 

SVP:

The SVP Sponsored walk raised £300 towards the upkeep of the Holiday Home. Thank-you for all your support.

 

THANK-YOU:

Thank-you to Fr. Cooke and friends for your prayers and concern regarding Jim’s health. Following a hospital appointment the consultant was delighted with his progress and has discharged him. Many thanks, Enid and Jim Mason.

 

THE PASTORAL COUNCIL AGM IS HERE:

The Council is holding its AGM today, Sunday 11th October, at 7 p.m. in the Hall and you are warmly invited to attend.  The Council will report on its activities over the past year and there will be an opportunity for you to ask questions.  Refreshments will be provided.  If you are interested in pastoral matters in the parish please come along to the AGM this evening and have your say.

 

NEW VESTMENTS:

Fr. Cooke wishes to replace some Mass Vestments and if you wish to contribute to this please put your donation in an envelope marked ‘Vestments’. Thank you in anticipation.

 

70'S & 80'S DISCO

Back by popular demand!! St Werburgh's & St Columba's Primary School PTA are having their disco this Friday (16th) in St Columba's Church Hall 8pm-11pm. All over 18's welcome. Bring your own drinks. POPE’S PRAYER INTENTIONS:

This October, the Pope asks us to pray:

•           That Sunday be lived as the day on which Christians gather to celebrate the Risen Lord in the table of the Eucharist;

•           That the people of God take up their responsibility to preach the Gospel and value it as their most important service to humanity.

 

UPTON CHURCHES PRAYER DIARY:

This week we pray for:

•           The residents of St. Christopher’s Close, Dale Drive and Heath Road.

•           The Treasurers, Finance Organisers and the Gift Aid Recorders.

•           Those who are responsible for the financial affairs of our Churches.

 

CHURCHES TOGETHER IN UPTON:

The next social event is a Quiz Night in aid of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd to be held at the URC on Friday, 30th October.  Why not put together a team and come along for an enjoyable evening?

 

PARISH CATECHISTS:

All Parish Catechists involved in preparation programmes for Baptism, First Sacraments, Confirmation and RCIA and the Bereavement and Children’s Liturgy Teams have been invited to renew their commitment at the 11.00 a.m. Mass this Sunday.   We thank them for all they bring to the Parish and its life.

 

CONCERT FOR CHRISTIAN AID:

“An evening of Music for All Tastes” is being arranged by Christian Aid, on Saturday 31st October, 7.30 p.m. at Hamilton Street Methodist Church, Hoole. Favourite songs from stage and screen, plus popular classics and organ lollipops. Admission £6, including refreshments. Further details 01244 674878.

CHESTER THEOLOGY SOCIETY:

The first lecture this year is to be held on October 28th at 7.30pm in the Beswick Building at the University.  The speaker will be Dr Terry Veling (Australian Catholic University, Brisbane) on:  The Golden Rule and the Great Commandment: What Does “As Yourself” Mean in the Verse, “Love Your Neighbour As Yourself”?  All welcome.  Admission £2.50.

 

UPTON HALL SCHOOL:

On Saturday 7th November at 2.30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool there is to be a Mass to celebrate the 160th Anniversary of the foundation of the school.  Everyone associated with the school or Holt Hill Convent is warmly invited.

 

ST. PETERS CENTRE AT THE CROSS:

The church building is available for use by Christian organisations for a wide range of events such as services, exhibitions, meetings and concerts.

The Centre is open, with refreshments available during its normal opening hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Saturday (except for Friday afternoon when lack of volunteers forces it to close).
